House Magazine annotation
This is a Dance/House music magazine and the colour scheme of this particular issue very much goes with the genre of music, it is quirky and upbeat with lots of different colours which is a good representation of House music. The main piece of text, rather than the obvious title, is the names "P Diddy & Felix" who are also pictured on the front of the magazine are obviously the main attraction and what the developers at 'mixmag' think will be the major selling point for them. The main title is in a different font to the cover lines, each edition of this magazine has the same font for the title 'mixmag'. The top right corner of these music magazines always have an advice section or ideas for young clubbers. There are plenty of other artist in this magazine as we can see underneath the 'plus' in the bottom right corner, it is obvious to us that these artists are not as famous or as sellable to old customers and new customers. Middle left of the magazine there is a free mix CD which is also a way of attracting new customers and keeping old customers aswell.
We would usually associate P Diddy & Felix with RnB and Rap so maybe this is an attempt to step out and come into another genre. Underneath their names it says 'Can house save hip hop' this gives us the impression that hip hop is failing and they are using the new upcoming genre of music to save themselves. This magazine is a good way of showing when two music types come together, we have the RnB in P Diddy & Felix and they are fitting in quite naturally to the house style of magazine that this is.

50 Cent/Susan Boyle
This is my attempt of merging two styles of musician together in 50 Cent (Rapper) and Susan Boyle (Light Classical), this was a task set in class and I think by combining the two as one picture will give out the impression that there is some sort of crossover. I have dressed Susan Boyle up in a rappers clothing to signify that rap will be a big part of this song.

Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
In our most recent media lesson we worked on our photoshop skills. To begin with we added a picture of our sixth form building, rasterised the image which allowed us to edit the picture. We then made any changes that we needed to make such as removing the sky or the ground etc using the magic wand tool. After that we added the text to the picture selected a size and colour and set that. We then added two edits to the text to make it look 3D, we added a shadow effect to make it look this way.

College Magazine analysis
This school newsletter gives us the impression that it is a relaxed, i can tell this because of the picture that is slightly off straight and an image of grafitti which gives off a more informal approach however there are also formal parts of the newsletter such as a comment from the headteacher and a basic font where as if it was completely informal the font would be a bit more out there.
In the top left corner the Cardinal Heenan Crest is there to show that the school is traditional as other schools may leave it off to look more modern.
Ideology
What is ideology?
Ideology is a world view which people in society see as true or important and the rest of that culture or society will function in that way.
In Layman's terms the ideology of something is how it is seen or portrayed by us as the viewer or reader in the case of a music magazine.

In this image we can see that our school is being portrayed as negative as everything is dark and looks miserable.

Feminism in a Music Magazine
Web Definition:
The Male Gaze
Feminism - is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing and defending equal political, economic and social rights for women.
The Male Gaze
The male gaze is a theory created by Laura Mulvey in 1975, as her belief was that film audiences have to view characters from a male heterosexual perspective. Feminists see people in three ways:
- How men look at women
- How women look at themselves
- How women look at other women
Some believe that the male gaze is used in everyday life as sexualising the female body even when sexiness of the female has nothing to do with the advert or product at all, for example the most recent coca cola advert whereby the woman is made to look extremely sexy for no apparent reason other than to attract male attention.
Others criticise this theory because its not just the male gaze as a lot of women look at other women and are jealous or envious, as well as this some women like being looked at as they even enter beauty pageants to get looked at.

Semiotic Theory
What is semiotic theory?
The web definition of Semiotic theory is "in linguistics, semiotics, also called semiotic studies or semiology, is the study of sign processes (semiosis), or signification and communication, signs and symbols."
Morris believed that human actions all have signs and meanings and they come in three ways:
Denotation is the literal meaning of something, in semiotics it means the literal meaning of the signifier.
Connotation...
Connotation is the deeper meaning of something for example red connotes anger.

Research Methods
There are 2 different types of research they are:
There is also 2 types of data that you can collect and they are :
- Quantitative
- Qualitative
There is also 2 types of data that you can collect and they are :
- Primary data
- Secondary data
Primary data is data that you have collected and you are not getting it from an external source, for example a questionaire that you create and send out. Secondary data is gathered from an external source such as other magazines or a website, you didn't gather the data first hand.
These types of research and data will help me with the creation of my website because we will be able to group our research and planning and fit it into the required category.

What is a music magazine?
A music magazine is a magazine that is solely focused on music and the music industry, they would typically include music news, photos and interviews etc. The first ever "Billboard" magazine advertisement launched in 1894. The most popular music magazine in the United Kingdom is "The Fly" and the most popular music magazine in the world is "Rolling Stone" according to www.allyoucanread.com.
In my opinion music magazines do not have a long term future as people would prefer to just venture onto the internet as it is easily accessible and has all the same information and more at your disposal and you do not have to wait for the magazine to be released as the information is always there.
Music magazines relate to fans of whatever genre the magazine is about, for instance rock fans would like to read a magazine like Kerrang!.
My favourite music magazine OHM (our house magazine).
This is a magazine about house music and obviously the main bulk of readers will be fans of this genre of music or maybe people who just enjoy one artist of this calibre. House music fans will normally be in the mid or late teens and carrying on into there 20's as i believe that they are the partying years. I like house music as it is partying music and it puts you in a good mood.

The reason I have picked House music as my genre type for my magazine is because all teenagers can relate to this type of music as it is is usually put together with partying and that sort of lifestyle. House music is not necessarily always percievced well as people believe it encourages the party lifestyle which obviously involves party drugs and alcohol etc. However I like this type of music as it is up beat and lively.
My favourite House music artists are:
- Steve Aoki
- Alesso
- Sebastian Ingrosso
- Tiesto

About Me
I am studying Media, Psychology and PE in Sixth Form. When I am not in school my main hobbies are different types of sport, my favourite sport is football which I play 3/4 times a week. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis however the time of year and the elements decides how many times I play those two sports as they are considered as "summer sports." I am very much a music lover however I don't have a certain type of favourite. My website is going to be about House music as it is a type of music which I enjoy a lot.
